The Big Winners

The headline winners were the high-profile eco superyacht Black Pearl and the striking 90-metre motor yacht DAR, both of which took home two prizes each during the ceremony.

Black Pearl, built by Oceanco and delivered in 2018, is part of a new generation of superyachts that care about their impact on the environment.

She has three impressive black sails that can be set in as little as seven minutes. The yacht is capable of crossing the Atlantic without using any fuel, yet she also carries a diesel-electric hybrid system.

Black Pearl makes a bold statement out on the ocean, taking us back to the ancient days of sailing while carrying superyachts firmly into the 21st century. She was named Sailing Yacht of the Year and best Sailing Yacht of 60m and above.

"Black Pearl is a truly cutting-edge yacht and a new benchmark for the industry," Boat International said in a statement.

DAR, also by Oceanco, won Motor Yacht of the Year for her shark-like exterior and the waterfall feature on board.

DAR also picked up the award for motor yachts of 2,000 gross tonnes and above, the category dedicated to the largest superyachts in the world.

The vessel's 400 metres of darkened glass panels earned high praise from the judges for their incredible panoramic views and privacy.

"We are grateful to all the team members and the many people responsible for creating both of these yachts," said Marcel Onkenhout, CEO of Oceanco.

"More than that, we are grateful for the trust placed in us by the owners of Black Pearl and DAR in bringing to life the extraordinary yachts they envisioned."

Remarkable Voyages

The superyacht Rosehearty, owned by American retail developer Joey Kaempfer, received the Voyager's Award in recognition of a recent Antarctic odyssey that took in King George Island, Trinity Island, the Melchior Islands and Port Lockroy.

Yacht conversions were also recognised, with Dream, once a cruise liner and now a private luxury yacht, winning in that category.

The judges were wowed by the helipad that doubles as a basketball court and the sleek, modern interiors.

The 39-metre superyacht G2 won the Rebuilt Yachts category, its recent refit having added a large open deck and a dining area.

The awards were presented at a ceremony in London, United Kingdom.

"It is a great honour and privilege to bring the superyacht community together year after year to officially honour and celebrate the world's most exceptional yachts, the teams who built them and their owners," said Tony Uden, co-CEO at Boat International.

"Everyone who entered this year's awards deserves recognition for their outstanding work, and the winners should be immensely proud of their achievements."
