These are the questions we get most often. If yours is not here, write to us on the contacts page, we answer every message.

What is Language & Trip?

We are a Ukrainian online magazine about travel and language learning. We are not a tour operator and not an agency: we write the kind of text people use when they plan a trip themselves. The motto of the site, "Travel boldly, speak freely", covers both halves of the job. The first is about where to go and how not to get lost there. The second is about language, without which a trip turns into a tour past someone else's life.

What do you write about?

These are the main areas:

  • Countries and cities what to see, what it costs, when to go, how transport works and where saving money backfires.
  • Nature mountains, lakes, waterfalls, canyons, national parks, weekend routes.
  • Food national cuisines, what to order in a given country and what to skip at a street market.
  • Travel practicalities visas, insurance, airline baggage, bank cards abroad, roaming, booking a place to stay.
  • Ukraine castles, national parks, weekend trips from big cities, thermal springs, festivals.
  • Languages how to learn, where to start and what you will actually use on the road.

Who prepares the material?

The site is run by an editorial team: writers, an editor and a proofreader. Every article says who wrote it and when it was published. There is more about the team and how we work on the About us page.

How do you check your information?

Every number and requirement is checked against a primary source: official sites of consulates, carriers, museums and national parks count for more than someone else's article quoting the same figures. When sources contradict each other, we say so instead of picking the more convenient one. Our full editorial standards are published in the Ukrainian and Russian versions of the site.

How current is the information?

Every article carries a date. Material that ages quickly, such as visa rules, prices and timetables, gets reviewed and updated. Still, rules change faster than updates are published, so always confirm with an official source before you travel. We say this inside the articles too, and it is worth repeating here.

What languages is the site in?

Ukrainian, Russian and English. The language switch is in the site header. Most material appears in all three at once, though some articles may not exist in every version.

Can I buy a tour or book a hotel through you?

No. We sell nothing and book nothing. We are a magazine, not an agency. If an article links to a booking service, that is a hint about where to look, not an offer from us.

Why are there ads on the site?

Ads pay for the editorial work: fees for writers, hosting, access to paid sources and photo libraries. We keep ad blocks separate from the text and never rate a place, a hotel or a service for money. If you want to advertise with us, write to us on the contacts page.

How do I find what I need?

Three ways. The menu in the header with its sections: Travel, Countries, Nature, Leisure, Sport. The search box in the top right corner, which looks through article titles. And the site map, where everything is grouped by year and month. Each article sits in several categories, so one useful page leads straight to similar ones.

How often do new articles appear?

Several a day, roughly 90 a month. The newest ones are always on the front page in the "Latest articles" block.

May I republish your text or use your photos?

You may quote the text with a link to the source page. Full republication only by arrangement, so write to us. Photographs come from stock licences and open sources such as Wikimedia Commons, so the rights are not ours to pass on.

I found a mistake, or I want to suggest a topic

Write to us through the form on the contacts page and include a link to the article. Error reports are the first messages we read: if the fact checks out, we fix the text. Topic suggestions are welcome too, part of what is on the site started as a reader's question.

Do you have a newsletter?

Yes, the signup form is on the front page. We send a digest of recent material, not daily spam. One click in any email unsubscribes you.
