The average temperature in Croatia in June is 26°C. For comparison, the average July temperature is 30°C. Keep in mind, though, that Croatia is a country with a very varied climate. The Adriatic coast has a Mediterranean climate, while in the mountains, highlands and the centre of the country you can expect light rain and strong winds in early summer. The minimum temperature in June can drop to 18°C, so it's a good idea to pack a warm hoodie or a fleece, along with a pair of long trousers. Nights bring similar temperatures. More sensitive travellers should bring warmer pyjamas too. Anyone who prefers an active holiday can explore all of Croatia in June: tackle the hiking trails and take in the most beautiful architectural landmarks. In summer that isn't always possible, because temperatures can reach 45°C, which makes comfortable sightseeing difficult. June is a completely different story: the sun shines for up to 8 hours and creates ideal conditions both for sightseeing and for sunbathing. You can count on the warmest water around Dubrovnik and Rovinj, where it reaches an average of 23°C. Right behind them come the island of Hvar (22°C) and the town of Kaštela (considered one of the most beautiful towns in Croatia). On the Istrian Peninsula and in Dalmatia the water is a touch cooler, hovering around 20°C. These temperatures, while far lower than in summer, shouldn't put anyone off. For comparison, the average water temperature in the Baltic Sea in July and August is 18°C. In turn, in the popular Algarve (a region on Portugal's southern coast) the average summer temperature is 19.9°C, and there's certainly no shortage of swimmers there. ## How to Get to Croatia in June You can travel to Croatia in June by car, bus or plane. Driving is a good option because there are no traffic jams, but the high cost of fuel in Croatia can make it less than economical. Budget airlines offer flights to Croatia in June for around 400 zloty, but online you can find plenty of deals and fly to Croatia for 800 zloty return, with an apartment by the sea and a car for the week thrown in. That's far cheaper than what travel agencies offer. Another way to reach Croatia in June is by bus, though few people choose it because the journey isn't very comfortable. Travelling by train is a much more pleasant option. There were even plans to launch a special line between Kraków and Split, but for now it looks like those plans won't be going ahead. Croatia has opened its border to tourists and lifted its restrictions. You don't need to show a vaccination certificate, quarantine, or fill in a location form. In Croatia, as in Poland, just one item remains on the list of Covid restrictions: the requirement to wear masks in medical facilities and social welfare institutions. Let's hope, though, that these aren't places Polish tourists tend to visit. ## Prices in June Prices in Croatia in June are much lower than "in season". People who have been to Croatia in June say they paid 50% less than in July, August or even September. What's more, in June it was far easier to book a room, and hotels were willing to lower their rates. The price drops were also noticeable in restaurants, ice cream parlours and shops, especially in tourist spots. ## Croatia: June or September? A huge advantage of visiting Croatia in June is the absence of tourist crowds, which means shorter queues at restaurants, greater hotel availability and fewer people on the beaches. It has its downsides too, such as fewer buses running. The weather in Croatia in June is similar to September, meaning it rarely exceeds 30°C but seldom drops below 22°C. In this case, however, there may be an issue with the availability of some attractions that only open once the season starts. This applies, for example, to scooter rentals, organised tours and the best ice cream parlours. By September most of these places are already open, and there are no tourist crowds like in July or August.
